So apparently there was a live announcement and Peter Capaldi was confirmed as the 12th Doctor? Did anyone see it because there's no reports that I can find just found it on facebook. May as well use this thread to discuss the new doctor as well.

I think this is awesome. If anyone has watched The Thick of It or anything else he's been in then you'll know that he is a brilliant actor. I like that they've chosen an older man to be the final Doctor. Perhaps he can bring a more serious tone to the show? I hope so. I'm curious, will he keep his Scottish accent or will he do a David Tennant and be English? I'd prefer it if he stayed Scottish to be honest.

Either way, I'm genuinely happy about this and hopefully the producers and writers will give him something good to work with.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

It's really really going to suck if they try to make him a funny Doctor though.

I've been trying to find out who was picked for ages, at last :D

I think they should get Benedict Cumberbach to do it next if he's available he's a better actor in my opinion.
Hopefully the next series will be more serious this one is to pantomime-like, Matt Smith is awesome but it's just too much of a kids show most of the time I believe it should be aimed at teenagers and older not 5 year olds.

Benedict Cumberbatch is too big now. Besides, I'm pretty sure there won't be anymore Doctor Who after this one. This is his final form. I'm almost certain of it. I would like to see the doctor behave much more like a scientist and an engineer than an excitable schoolboy. I would love for them to stop making him so silly. Humour is ok occasionally. You need comic relief now and then. But it should mostly be more mature yes. I'm hopinh Mr Capaldi, the writers and the producers do this. Otherwise it will be a sad and rather pathetic end to what was once a very well written sci fi show.

Also more space exploration, less Earth and no more Silurians thank you. :p

Less Cardiff or London would be a big enough plus, do they realize there are other places in the world?

I'm sure Benedict would love the part though doubtful he would want to much money for it, it would be a big boost to his image anyway(provided script etc were good)

Yeah hopefully there is some humour to it, shouldn't end all dreary and depressing seeing as the end will likely be his death anyway that's enough.

Ughh, I've just realised that Matt Smith will still be in it for about 6 more episodes before Mr Capaldi gets to replace him. <_<

Can't they just kill him at the start of the new series?

I don't actual mind Matt I think he's great it's just the show has become too light hearted now, one or two sad episodes just don't make up for that.

As long as we hear The Doctor's name before he dies I'm happy with it ending for good it's gone so far down hill that it's not likely to make it back up, maybe in a few years, new writers etc it could work.

Can he handle not having that freedom in Doctor Who though? That's what I'm worried about it could impair his performance.

It would be awesome if they suddenly went no f*** you this series is gritty and dark now, get lost children.

He's a professional actor who's played dozens of different roles throughout his career. I'm pretty sure he's capable of sticking to the script and following watershed guidelines.

I don't really watch Doctor Who properly, I'm an extremely casual viewer who just picks it up every now and then. I never really got attached to Matt Smith, he was only ever decent for me, so I'm welcome to anyone who comes in now. I think I'll always like David Tennant the most.

I would rather not listen to swearing in Doctor Who, I'm not a big fan of large amounts of swearing.

But yeah, it is Peter Capaldi, no idea what I really think of that, he has a more serious look about him and that's not so much of what I like.
